SANDUSKY TRIAL

THE JURY IN THE JERRY SANDUSKY TRIAL RESUMES DELIBERATIONS AT 9AM AFTER WORKING FOR ALMOST 8 HOURS YESTERDAY. THE BIGGEST BOMBSHELL OF THE DAY CAME WHEN SANDUSKY’S SON, MATT, ANNOUNCED THROUGH HIS LAWYERS THAT HE WAS ABUSED BY SANDUSKY WHEN HE WAS A FOSTER CHILD AND HE HAD BEEN PREPARED TO TESTIFY AS A REBUTTAL WITNESS. IT’S NOT CLEAR EXACTLY WHEN MATT SANDUSKY CAME FORWARD TO AUTHORITIES AND HE PREVIOUSLY CLAIMED HE HAD NOT BEEN ABUSED. YESTERDAY, THE JUDGE DROPPED 3 COUNTS CONNECTED TO ACCUSER 4. SO NOW JERRY SANDUSKY IS FACING 48 CHARGES; 26 FELONIES AND 22 MISDEMEANORS.

A 30-YEAR-OLD MAN CAME FORWARD LAST NIGHT IN AN INTERVIEW WITH NBC NEWS CLAIMING HE WAS ABUSED AS A CHILD BY JERRY SANDUSKY. TRAVIS WEAVER, WHO HAS FILED A CIVIL SUIT AGAINST SANDUSKY, THE SECOND MILE AND PENN STATE, SAYS IT BEGAN WHEN HE WAS 10 AND THERE WERE MORE THAN 100 INCIDENTS. WEAVER WAS NOT PART OF THE CENTRE COUNTY TRIAL. WEAVER ALSO SAYS YEARS LATER, WHEN HE THREATENED TO CALL POLICE, SANDUSKY ALLEGEDLY SAID HE WOULD HAVE WEAVER’S FATHER, WHO WORKS AT WPSU, FIRED IF HE TOLD.

SEX ABUSE TRIAL STARTS MONDAY

A CAMBRIA COUNTY JURY WAS SEATED THURSDAY AND THE TRIAL OF 33 YEAR OLD PATRICK RUGG OF EBENSBURG AND ROCKWOOD BEGINS MONDAY. RUGG IS ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ABUSING A BOY OVER 14 MONTHS. AUTHORITIES SAY THE INCIDENTS TOOK PLACE BETWEEN APRIL 2009 AND JUNE 2010 IN CAMBRIA AND ARMSTRONG COUNTIES.

ROBBERS ON TRIAL

CLOSING ARGUMENTS ARE SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AT 8:30 THIS MORNING IN THE CENTRE COUNTY ROBBERY AND BURGLARY TRIAL OF MAKSIM ILLARIONOV, DMITRIY LITVINOV AND ANATOLIY VERETNOV. PROSECUTORS CALLED ABOUT 100 WITNESSES WHO TESTIFIED ABOUT THE RUSSIAN MENS’ ALLEGED CRIME SPREE IN 2009 AND 2010. A 4TH MAN IS ALREADY SERVING AT LEAST 36 YEARS IN A STATE PRISON. ILLARIONOV IS DOING TIME FOR WEAPONS VIOLATIONS.

JOHNSTOWN SHOOTING

JOHNSTOWN POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A SHOOTING IN AN APARTMENT BUILDING ON MESSENGER STREET IN THE HORNERSTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, ONE PERSON WAS SHOT 4 TIMES AROUND 8:45PM, THEN TAKEN TO MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER. NO WORD ON THE VICTIM’S CONDITION. THE GUNMAN RAN FROM THE SCENE.

PETS DIE IN HOUSE FIRE

A FIRE BROKE OUT SHORTLY BEFORE 6PM AND QUICKLY DESTROYED A HOUSE IN CROYLE TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY. ONE PERSON WAS AT THE HOME ON THE 800 BLOCK OF BAUMGARDNER ROAD AND THEY ESCAPED SAFELY, BUT SEVERAL PETS DIED. FLAMES EVEN SPREAD TO NEARBY TREES.

FIRE OFFICIAL ARRESTED

47 YEAR OLD JAMES FOUSE OF HUNTINGDON IS FREE ON UN-SECURED BAIL, ACCUSED OF STEALING ALMOST 24-THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM RAYSTOWN BEVERAGE IN SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP. STATE POLICE SAY FOUSE TOOK THE MONEY FROM THE REGISTER WHILE WORKING AT THE BUSINESS BETWEEN MARCH OF 2009 AND SEPTEMBER OF LAST YEAR. FOUSE IS THE HUNTINGDON REGIONAL FIRE AND RESCUE COMMISSIONER.

ALTOONA WATER UPGRADES

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT THE ALTOONA WATER AUTHORITY VOTED YESTERDAY TO SPEND 6-POINT-5 MILLION DOLLARS TO AUTOMATE THE READING OF METERS AND REPLACE CONVENTIONAL METERS WITH “SMART METERS.” OFFICIALS SAY THE 6-YEAR PROJECT SHOULD PAY FOR ITSELF OVER 20 YEARS BECAUSE THE NEW METERS WILL REGISTER FLOW WITH ALMOST 100-PERCENT ACCURACY. THE AUTHORITY WILL APPLY FOR A GRANT OR LOAN FROM PENNVEST. IF IT’S NOT APPROVED, THEY WILL BORROW THE MONEY THROUGH BONDS OR A BANK.
