SANDUSKY SCANDAL

THE GROUP “PENN STATERS FOR RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP” IS CRITICAL OF THE FREEH REPORT AND HAS NOW RELEASED ITS OWN ANALYSIS OF THE FINDINGS, CLAIMING THE REPORT CONTAINS 23 KEY FAILURES. THE GROUP SAYS FREEH WAS HIRED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO POINT THE FINGER TOWARD THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AND IGNORED THE ROLE OF OTHER AGENCIES WHO ALSO DEALT WITH JERRY SANDUSKY. THEY ALSO CITE THAT A BROTHER OF AN UN-NAMED TRUSTEE WHO VOTED TO FIRE JOE PATERNO MADE A THREAT AGAINST THE COACH IN 2007. PENN STATERS FOR RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP BELIEVES THERE WAS A LACK OF EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THE CONCLUSION THAT PATERNO AND TOP UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS PLOTTED TO CONCEAL SANDUSKY’S ABUSE.

A GROUP OF PENN STATE SUPPORTERS IS PLANNING A RALLY TOMORROW AT 10AM TO CALL FOR THE RESIGNATIONS OF GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT, UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT RODNEY ERICKSON, AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. THE GROUP SAYS PENN STATE CANNOT MOVE PAST THE JERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL UNTIL TRUSTEES EXPRESS REGRET FOR THEIR HANDLING OF THE CHARGES AGAINST SANDUSKY AND EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE…INCLUDING THE FIRING OF JOE PATERNO.THE RALLY WILL BE HELD ON THE OLD MAIN LAWN AND FORMER STEELER FRANCO HARRIS IS EXPECTED TO BE ONE OF THE SPEAKERS.

WHEN PENN STATE TRUSTEES MEET TODAY, THEY WILL CONSIDER RENAMING THE CHILD CARE CENTER PREVIOUSLY NAMED FOR FORMER ADMINISTRATOR GARY SCHULTZ WHO IS NOW FACING PERJURY CHARGES RELATED TO THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE. SCHULTZ’ ATTORNEY HAS SENT A LETTER ASKING THE BOARD TO HOLD OFF ON A DECISION UNTIL AFTER HIS TRIAL.
