FLOODING IN CAMBRIA COUNTY

Meanwhile, the Cambria County Department of Emergency Services is ASKING ANY PROPERTY OWNERS WHO HAD DAMAGE TOTALLING OVER 5-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REPORT IT. YOU SHOULD consider not only structural and foundation damage, but loss of major contents such as electric service panels, furnaces, water heaters and major appliances. The department will submit damage estimates to the STATE Emergency Management Agency TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY POSSIBILITY OF FEDERAL AID.

A Butler County woman was killed and 2 people were injured in a wreck Thursday AFTERNOON on Route 286 near Indiana. POLICE SAY 80 YEAR OLD Martha Sybert of Renfrew CROSSED THE CENTER LANE AND HIT ANOTHER CAR DRIVEN BY JOHN STARK OF LATROBE. SYBERT DIED AT the scene. HER PASSENGER AND STARK WERE TAKEN to Indiana Regional Medical Center.

MICHAEL MEO OF STEELTON PA SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES IN A CRASH IN DUNCANSVILLE YESTERDAY. ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP POLICE SAY MEO FAILED TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY WHEN HE PULLED INTO TRAFFIC FROM THE U-P-S TERMINAL ONTO ROUTE 764. HE BROADSIDED ANOTHER CAR AND EMERGENCY CREWS HAD TO USE THE JAWS OF LIFE TO GET MEO OUT OF HIS VEHICLE. 3 YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE SECOND CAR HAD MINOR INJURIES AND A BABY GIRL WAS NOT HURT.

an overnight fire damaged some vacant buildings at 8th street and chestnut avenue in altoona. the buildings had been empty for several years. no word yet on the cause or extent of damage.

SOLLENBERGER…WHO IS SCHEDULED FOR MORE SURGERY AT A PITTSBURGH HOSPITAL…SAYS SHANNON THREATENED TO KILL HIM FOR HANDING OVER INFORMATION TO THE POLICE IN ANOTHER CASE.

DAVID AND ROXANNE LAMER OF Ebensburg found nearly 400-THOUSAND DOLLARS in cash in old coffee cans WHEN THEY WERE HIRED TO CLEAN OUT THE GARAGE OF AN ELDERLY MAN IN 2007, BUT THEY FAILED TO PAY TAXES ON IT…AND YESTERDAY A FEDERAL JUDGE SENTENCED DAVID TO 21 MONTHS IN PRISON. PENN STAte health care battle

MANY PENN STATE EMPLOYEES HAVE BEEN UP IN ARMS OVER A NEW HEALTH CARE PLAN THAT REQUIRES A BIOMETRIC SCREENING OR A MONTHLY FINE. TOBACCO USERS WOULD ALSO HAVE TO PAY PENALTIES. THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTS THAT A group of faculty members will hold a session TOday to discuss the plan that THEY say is an invasion of privacy. Penn State SAYS the health care plan will save the employees money AND The personal health information will be kept confidential.

CATA is offering game-day shuttles to beaver stadium. ONE route WILL servE downtown State College… and the other will serve Hills Plaza and other South Atherton Street hotels and businesses.shuttles begin operation 3 hours before kickoff and run continuously until one hour after the game ends. State College Boro OFFICIALS haVE announced parking regulations for THIS SEASON. The “no parking 2 to 6am” restriction will not be enforced from noon on Friday through Sunday evening each weekend of a home football game. That restriction will begin again each Monday at 2am. The 1- and 2-hour parking restrictions also will not be enforced during those times and lawn parking will be allowed during the weekend. Visitors are encouraged to use the parking garages on Beaver Avenue, Fraser Street and Pugh Street. If snow and ice are predicted, street parking will not be allowed.

Detour

in altoona tomorrow, the contractor will be switching traffic at the Mill Run Culvert project on Route 764. the work area will be controlled by a flag person as traffic is stopped for up to 15 minute intervals to move barriers and set the new traffic pattern. This work will take place throughout the day and motorists are advised to allow extra time or find another route. The entire project should be completed by December.
