BODY IN CREEK

THE CLINTON COUNTY CORONER IS WAITING FOR TOXICOLOGY TESTS BEFORE RULING ON THE CAUSE OF DEATH OF 17 YEAR OLD ALEX WITHERITE. HE WAS FOUND DEAD THURSDAY AFTERNOON LYING PARTIALLY IN BEECH CREEK NEAR THE CLINTON/CENTRE COUNTY LINE. FAMILY MEMBERS SAY ALEX HAD BEEN MISSING FOR ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE HE WAS FOUND.

ANOTHER STUDENT FALLS

STATE COLLEGE POLICE SAY A 19 YEAR OLD PENN STATE STUDENT FELL 16 FEET FROM A BALCONY AT THE PALMERTON APARTMENTS IN DOWNTOWN STATE COLLEGE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. HE WAS TREATED AT MOUNT NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER FOR NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. POLICE SAY ALCOHOL IS BELIEVED TO BE A FACTOR. THIS IS THE 7TH TIME SOMEONE FELL OR JUMPED FROM A BALCONY OR WINDOW SINCE OCTOBER OF 2012.

SANDUSKY SCANDAL

MATT SANDUSKY DEBUTED THE FILM “HAPPY VALLEY’ SUNDAY AT THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL IN UTAH. IN HIS FIRST PUBLIC COMMENTS, SANDUSKY THANKED THE YOUNG MEN WHO TESTIFIED AGAINST HIS ADOPTIVE FATHER AND GAVE HIM THE STRENGTH TO ADMIT TO PROSECUTORS THAT HE TOO HAD BEEN MOLESTED. ACCORDING TO THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES, IT IS NOT YET KNOWN IF OR WHEN THE FILM WILL BE AVAILABLE IN OUR AREA.

THE STATUE OF JOE PATERNO WAS REMOVED FROM OUTSIDE BEAVER STADIUM 2 YEARS AGO…AND NOW PENN STATE TRUSTEE JOEL MYERS IS CALLING FOR A NEW STATUE OF PATERNO AND FRED PATTEE TO BE PLACED OUTSIDE THE LIBRARIES THAT HONOR THE 2 MEN. MYERS TOLD THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FRIDAY THAT THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY HAS TO COME TOGETHER TO MOVE FORWARD PAST THE DIVIDE THAT ERUPTED AFTER THE JERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL.

CAMPUS RAPE

PENN STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AN ALLEGED RAPE AT UNIVERSITY PARK. A FEMALE STUDENT REPORTED BEING ASSAULTED ALONG WEST COLLEGE AVENUE, SOUTH OF HAMMOND BUILDING, BETWEEN 2 AND 2:30 SATURDAY MORNING. THE SUSPECT IS BELIEVED TO BE KNOWN TO THE VICTIM.

2 STABBED

62 YEAR OLD PAUL GRIFFITH OF SCHELLSBURG IS IN THE BEDFORD COUNTY PRISON ON A HALF-MILLION DOLLAR BOND. STATE POLICE TELL THE ALTOONA MIRROR GRIFFITH IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE FOR GETTING INTO A FIGHT WITH 44 YEAR OLD BRIAN BARNETT OF MANNS CHOICE EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. BOTH MEN WERE TAKEN TO UPMC ALTOONA WITH STAB WOUNDS TO THEIR NECKS. BARNETT WAS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL BY SUNDAY NIGHT. GRIFFITH’S PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SET FOR JANUARY 29TH.

ST. COLLEGE ASSAULTS

STATE COLLEGE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING 4 REPORTED ASSAULTS OVER THE WEEKEND. 20 YEAR-OLD MICHAEL ANGELERI IS CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED AND SIMPLE ASSAULT PLUS HARASSMENT FOR ALLEGEDLY CHOKING A FEMALE PENN STATE STUDENT AT THE SIGMA PI FRATERNITY HOUSE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. A WOMAN CLAIMS AN UNKNOWN MAN BEAR-HUGGED HER AND GROPED HER SATURDAY NIGHT IN THE 200 BLOCK OF K ALLEY. A MAN REPORTED BEING ASSAULTED BY AN UNKNOWN MALE ON THE 400 BLOCK OF EAST COLLEGE AVENUE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. THE VICTIM WAS LEFT WITH SEVERAL CUTS ON HIS FACE AND A CHIPPED TOOTH. AND A WOMAN CLAIMS SHE WAS ASSAULTED EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AT THE INTERSECTION OF EASTERLY PARKWAY AND GARNER STREET. SHE DID NOT NEED MEDICAL TREATMENT.
