ABOUT 50 FIREFIGHTERS SPENT THEIR DAY DIGGING TRAILS SO THE FLAMES COULD NOT BURN ANY WIDER OR HIGHER ON THE MOUNTAINSIDE. OFFICIALS SAY THE LACK OF SNOWFALL MEANT THAT LEAF LITTER IN THE WOODS WAS EXPOSED AND DRY, CREATING A BIGGER PROBLEM. THE FIRE WASN’T HOT ENOUGH TO KILL THE TREES AND NO ONE WAS INJURED.
