WEATHER RELATED FATAL ACCIDENT
A 22-year-old Centre COUNTY MAN was killed in a CRASH Christmas Eve AFTERNOON. State police at Rockview saY 24 YEAR OLD JOSHUA MANNING OF REBERSBURG lost control of his S-U-V ON AN ICY BRUSH VALLEY ROAD IN MILES TOWNSHIP and SLAMMed head-on into a TRUCK drivEN 47 YEAR OLD Gerald Corl of Bellefonte. Ethan Wolfe OF CENTRE HALL, a passenger in MANNING’S VEHICLE, was pronounced dead at the scene. Manning and 2 other passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Geisinger Medical Center.
A 4 YEAR OLD GIRL CALLED THE POLICE AROUND 4AM ON CHRISTMAS DAY TO TELL THEM SHE WAS HOME ALL ALONE IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY. STATE POLICE DETERMINED THE LOCATION TO BE ALONG THE MORRISDALE/ALLPORT HIGHWAY. WHEN THEY ARRIVED, THEY FOUND THE GIRL’S FATHER INTOXICATED AND PASSED OUT. THE 32 YEAR OLD FATHER IS CHARGED WITH CHILD ENDANGERMENT AND POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE. HE’S IN THE CLEARFIELD COUNTY JAIL ON A PAROLE VIOLATION AND THE GIRL IS IN HER GRANDPARENTS’ CARE.
WOMAN THREATENS GRANDMA
23 YEAR OLD LATASHA WOODRING OF ANTIS TOWNSHIP SPENT CHRISTMAS NIGHT IN JAIL AFTER AN ARGUMENT WITH HER GRANDMOTHER OVER A VISIT TO HER BOYFRIEND’S HOUSE. STATE POLICE SAY WOODRING WANTED TO BORROW HER GRANDMOTHER’S CAR, BUT SHE REFUSED AND WOODRING THREATENED TO BREAK THE WOMAN’S WRISTS. WOODRING IS ALSO CHARGED WITH RESISTING ARREST FOR SCREAMING AND CURSING AT OFFICERS.

POLICE IN TYRONE HAVE FILED D-U-I CHARGES AGAINST 54 YEAR OLD DANA SPONSLER OF TYRONE.
ON DECEMBER 4TH, HE ALLEGEDLY SIDESWIPED 2 VEHICLES ALONG WASHINGTON AVENUE. THE VICTIMS FOLLOWED HIM HOME. SPONSLER’S BLOOD ALCOHOL WAS POINT-347 PERCENT. A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED JANUARY 14TH.

Regulators HAVE approved a temporary price hike of 3 cents for a first-class stamp, bringing the charge to 49 cents in an effort to help the Postal Service recover from severe mail decreases brought on by the 2008 economic downturn. the new rate is effective JanUARY 26TH. OFFICIALS SAY The higher rate will last no more than 2 years, allowing the Postal Service to recoup 2-POINT-8 billion DOLLARS in losses. Bulk mail, periodicals, and package service rates will rise 6 percent.

The blair county INTERMUNICIPAL RECYCLING COMMITTEE IS ASKING EVERYONE TO Recycle paper, gift boxes, cardboard and plastic bags, and film BY DROPPING THEM OFF at ALTOONA’S Logan Valley Mall TODAY through SATURDAY from 10am to 5pm.
You can also recycle the boxes and gift wrap at YOUR curbside, JUST Treat paper wrapping like other recyclable paper AND bundle it with string or stick it in a paper bag.

City of Altoona and Logan Township residents can drop-off trees at the City highway yard on 6th Avenue or the Township highway yard at Chief Logan Circle. The Duncansville Facility will be open on January 7 and January 14 from noon to 5.
