SANDUSKY TRIAL

POINTS FOR THE DEFENSE WEDNESDAY AS MIKE MCQUEARY’S FATHER, JOHN, TESTIFIED AT JERRY SANDUSKY’S TRIAL. HE DENIED BEING AT THE DECEMBER PRELIMINARY HEARING FOR FORMER PENN STATE ADMINISTRATORS TIM CURLEY AND GARY SHULTZ, BUT HE ACTUALLY TOOK THE STAND THERE. 3 OF SANDUSKY’S ACCUSERS LATER TESTIFIED ABOUT HOW HE MOLESTED THEM WHEN THEY WERE BOYS. ACCUSER NUMBER 10 TOLD THE JURY HE RAN OUT OF THE BEDROOM AT SANDUSKY’S HOUSE ONCE AND THE FORMER COACH TOLD HIM IF HE EVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE INCIDENT, HE WOULD NEVER SEE HIS FAMILY AGAIN. ACCUSER 5 CRIED AS HE TALKED ABOUT BEING ABUSED IN A SHOWER ON CAMPUS.

YESTERDAY, JUDGE JOHN CLELAND RULED THAT CO-WORKERS COULD TELL JURORS ABOUT WHAT A JANITOR REPORTED SEEING IN THE PENN STATE SHOWERS. THE JANITOR NOW SUFFERS FROM DEMENTIA AND CAN’T TAKE THE STAND. ONE OF THOSE EMPLOYEES TESTIFIED THAT HE SAW SANDUSKY LEAVING A SHOWER WITH A CHILD….AND THE JANITOR LATER TOLD HIM THAT HE’D SEEN THE FORMER COACH MOLESTING A BOY.

THE JUDGE SAYS THINGS ARE PROGRESSING MUCH QUICKER THAN EXPECTED AND THE COMMONWEALTH COULD WRAP UP ITS CASE AS SOON AS FRIDAY. STILL NO WORD IF SANDUSKY WILL TAKE THE STAND IN HIS OWN DEFENSE.

SOME PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO MAKE MONEY OFF THE SANDUSKY TRIAL BY OFFERING MEMORABILIA ON EBAY. ONE PERSON IS TRYING TO GET 499-DOLLARS FOR A 14-BY-11 PICTURE SIGNED BY SANDUSKY SHOWING HIM SURROUNDED BY YOUNG BOYS. THE PICTURE WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED TO BE AUCTIONED AT A CHARITY EVENT FOR THE SECOND MILE FOUNDATION. ANOTHER SELLER WANTS 199-DOLLARS FOR A LIMITED EDITION, LEATHER-BOUND COPY OF SANDUSKY'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY, TITLED "TOUCHED."  THE POSTER CALLS THE ITEM A, QUOTE, "PIECE OF DARK HISTORY."

NO CHARGES IN DEADLY SHOOTING

THE BLAIR COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE HAS DECIDED NOT TO FILE CHARGES IN THE JANUARY SHOOTING DEATH OF 24 YEAR OLD BRANDON ZETH ALTOONA. TIMOTHY LEPORE SAYS HE FELT THREATENED WHEN AN INTOXICATED ZETH BEGAN POUNDING ON HIS BEDROOM WINDOW LATE AT NIGHT. ZETH THOUGHT HE WAS AT HIS GIRLFRIEND’S HOUSE NEXT DOOR. AUTHORITIES SAY, UNDER PENNSYVANIA’S CASTLE DOCTRINE, THE USE OF DEADLY FORCE IS JUSTIFIABLE WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL REASONABLY BELIEVES IT’S NECESSARY TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM DEATH OR SERIOUS BODILY INJURY.

THEY’RE HOPING THEY MIGHT SWAY STATE LAWMAKERS, THOUGH A SPOKESMAN FOR THE GOVERNOR SAYS IT’S UNLIKELY. A SPOKESMAN FOR THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SAYS THE LOSS OF 1-POINT-7-BILLION DOLLARS IN FEDERAL STIMULUS FUNDING IS TO BLAME FOR REDUCED EDUCATION FUNDS. MORE PROTESTS ARE PLANNED TODAY.
