SANDUSKY SCANDAL

DEFENSE ATTORNEY JOE AMENDOLA SAYS JERRY SANDUSKY REGRETS NOT TAKING THE STAND AT HIS TRIAL AND LIKELY WILL BE SENTENCED NEXT MONTH.
AMENDOLA HAS NOT YET RECEIVED A PRE-SENTENCE REPORT FROM THE COUNTY COURT SYSTEM AND THE DEFENSE HAS NOT DECIDED WHETHER TO CONTEST A RECOMMENDATION THAT SANDUSKY BE DECLARED A SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR UNDER MEGAN’S LAW. SANDUSKY ADMITS SHOWERING WITH BOYS, BUT SAYS HE NEVER MOLESTED THEM. AFTER SENTENCING, HE WILL HAVE 10 DAYS TO FILE POST-SENTENCING MOTIONS AND THE JUDGE WILL HAVE 4 OR 5 MONTHS TO RULE ON THEM. IF SANDUSKY LOSES THOSE MOTIONS, HE WOULD THEN HAVE A MONTH TO FILE AN APPEAL TO SUPERIOR COURT.

THE LEGAL TEAMS FOR FORMER PENN STATE ADMINISTRATORS TIM CURLEY AND GARY SCHULTZ ARE HOPING TO HAVE THE FAILURE TO REPORT SUMMARY CHARGE AGAINST THEM DROPPED. THE HARRISBURG PATRIOT NEWS REPORTS THAT THE ATTORNEYS SAY THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS HAS EXPIRED…HOWEVER PROSECUTORS ARE ARGUING THAT THE STATUTE SHOULD NOT APPLY. MISSING TEEN IS FOUND IN ILLINOIS

A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL, MISSING SINCE AUGUST 28TH, IS FOUND SAFE AND SOUND…AND THE SEXUAL OFFENDER SHE WAS TRAVELING WITH IS IN CUSTODY. POLICE CONFIRM THAT 14 YEAR OLD KARLEY BLETZ OF PUNXSUTAWNEY WAS LOCATED YESTERDAY IN OGLE COUNTY ILLINOIS AND HER MOTHER CLAIMS KARLEY HAD AN ONGOING RELATIONSHIP WITH DONALD GUTHRIE WHO IS ALSO A CONVICTED BANK ROBBER. POLICE IN HUGHESVILLE, LYCOMING COUNTY, SAY GUTHRIE IS A SUSPECT IN A BANK ROBBERY THAT OCCURRED AUGUST 27TH, BUT HE HAS NOT YET BEEN CHARGED WITH THAT CRIME.

ALTOONA FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION

AN ALTOONA BUILDING AT 31ST STREET AND WEST CHESTNUT AVENUE IS A TOTAL LOSS AFTER YESTERDAY’S EARLY MORNING FIRE. THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO THE CAUSE. THE BUILDING HOUSED THE “T-V SHOP” AND ALSO SERVED AS A STORAGE FACILITY FOR ADAMS ELECTIC.

INMATE CHARGED WITH MURDER

AN INMATE AT THE STATE PRISON AT LAUREL HIGHLANDS IN SOMERSET COUNTY HAS BEEN ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL ON CRIMINAL HOMICIDE CHARGES. AUTHORITIES SAY MARK FARABAUGH OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY BEAT INMATE KEITH WILLIAMS TO DEATH BACK IN MARCH. 3 OTHER PRISONERS TOLD STATE POLICE THAT THEY SAW FARABAUGH PUNCHING WILLIAMS, WHO USED A WHEELCHAIR.

DRUG DEALER ENTERS GUILTY PLEA

RATHER THAN GO ON TRIAL YESTERDAY, 51 YEAR OLD KENNETH PINER SENIOR OF ALTOONA AGREED TO PLEAD GUILTY TO BEING PART OF A MAJOR BALTIMORE-TO-ALTOONA COCAINE RING…AND HE WILL TESTIFY AGAINST THE OTHER DEFENDANTS. PINER WAS ONE OF 14 PEOPLE ARRESTED LAST YEAR IN CONNECTION WITH THE DRUG RING OPERATING OUT OF THE CORNER BAR AT 10-01 8TH AVENUE. PINER WILL SERVE AT LEAST 19 YEARS IN PRISON.

WOMEN INJURED IN WRECKS

29 YEAR OLD SHARA GOYNE OF BELLEFONTE WAS FLOWN TO ALTOONA REGIONAL TRAUMA CENTER WITH MODERATE INJURIES AFTER A 2-VEHICLE CRASH YESTERDAY IN UNIONVILLE, CENTRE COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY GOYNE FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND PULLED INTO THE PATH OF AN S-U-V OPERATED BY 40 YEAR OLD KAREN JACOBS OF FLEMING PENNSYLVANIA. TROOPERS SAY ALCOHOL WAS A FACTOR IN THIS WRECK THAT HAPPENED ABOUT 4:30 IN THE AFTERNOON. JACOBS WAS TAKEN TO MOUNT NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER WITH MODERATE INJURIES.

AN EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA WOMAN WAS INJURED  YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN SHE TOOK HER EYES OFF THE ROAD TO CHECK HER G-P-S UNIT. STATE POLICE SAY 58 YEAR OLD EMMA SMITH OF MATAMORAS WAS WESTBOUND ON I-80 IN CENTRE COUNTY. HER MINIVAN DRIFTED OFF THE ROAD AND SMITH OVERCORRECTED. SHE RAN INTO A DITCH AND ROLLED OVER TWICE…THEN CONTINUED INTO A WOODED AREA WHERE THE VEHICLE STRUCK SEVERAL TREES. SMITH SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES AND WAS TAKEN TO MOUNT NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER.
