ATTACKED BY BLACK BEAR

STATE POLICE SAY 18 YEAR OLD CAMILLE BOMBOY OF MILL HALL, CLINTON COUNTY, WAS DEER HUNTING MONDAY AFTERNOON WHEN SHE WAS ATTACKED BY A LARGE BLACK BEAR, PROBABALY TRYING TO PROTECT ITS 3 CUBS. CAMILLE WAS SEVERELY INJURED AND IS IN FAIR CONDITION FOLLOWING SURGERY AT GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER IN DANVILLE. HER STEPFATHER AND STEPBROTHER BOTH SHOT AT THE BEAR, WOUNDING IT…BUT IT TOOK OFF AND HASN’T BEEN SEEN SINCE. A GAME COMMISSION SPOKESMAN SAYS THEY WILL TRY TO CAPTURE THE BEAR AND RELOCATE IT.

HUNTER’S DEATH STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION

THE STATE GAME COMMISSION IS STILL INVESTIGATING THE ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING DEATH OF 42 YEAR OLD TIMOTHY BRUCE OF ASHVILLE, CAMBRIA COUNTY. HE WAS KILLED WHILE HUNTING WITH A LARGE GROUP OF MEN SATURDAY NEAR SIDMAN. OFFICIALS SAY THEY ARE STILL UNSURE WHO ACTUALLY FIRED THE SHOT AND CHARGES ARE A POSSIBILITY IF THEY DETERMINE THE SHOT WAS FIRED WITH CARELESSNESS OR NEGLIGENCE.

BUYING BEAR GALLBLADDERS

THE STATE GAME COMMISSION SAYS A JOHNSTOWN-AREA RESTAURANT OWNER HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH BUYING THE GALLBLADDERS OF AT LEAST 2 WILD BEARS. DAVID HORTON, THE OWNER OF NYKO'S IN RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, SAYS HE IS NOT GUILTY, BUT AUTHORITIES SAY THEY HAVE PROOF THAT HORTON PAID AN UNDERCOVER INFORMANT A TOTAL OF 160-DOLLARS IN CASH ON ONE DAY IN 2011. IN ASIAN CULTURE, THE GALLBLADDERS AND BILE OF BEARS ARE CONSIDERED A DELICACY. THEY ARE ALSO USED AS AN APHRODISIAC IN DIFFERENT MEDICINES. A HEARING IS SCHEDULED IN FEBRUARY.

NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING

LAST FRIDAY, 20 YEAR OLD HUGO BAEZ WAS ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL FOR THE HALLOWEEN NIGHT SHOOTING DEATH OF 22 YEAR OLD WILLIE SOLOMON AT CHOICE’S BOTTLE CLUB ON EAST 6TH AVENUE IN ALTOONA. TODAY, 24 YEAR OLD BRANDON MIDDER, A FORMER CHOICES BOUNCER, IS DUE IN COURT ON A CHARGE OF ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM. MIDDER CLAIMS BAEZ OFFERED HIM 100-DOLLARS TO DRIVE HIM TO HARRISBURG AFTER THE SHOOTING. THE MEN WERE ARRESTED IN ALEXANDRIA, HUNTINGDON COUNTY. POLICE FOUND A SHOTGUN AND A SEMI-AUTOMATIC HANDGUN IN MIDDER’S CAR, BUT NOT THE MURDER WEAPON OR THE GUN MIDDERS HAD AT THE CLUB. DRUG PARAPHERNALIA WAS ALSO IN THE VEHICLE.

DRUG SWEEP IN BEDFORD COUNTY

STATE POLICE AND THE BEDFORD COUNTY DRUG TASK FORCE CONDUCTED “OPERATION STOCKING STUFFER” YESTERDAY AND ROUNDED UP AS MANY AS 23 SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS. DISTRICT ATTORNEY BILL HIGGINS SAYS THE SUSPECTS ARE ACCUSED OF SELLING HEROIN, MARIJUANA AND PRESCRIPTION PILLS.

HOSPITAL MERGER

J-C BLAIR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN HUNTINGDON COULD BE MERGING WITH PINNACLE HEALTH SYSTEM OF HARRISBURG. THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT EXECUTIVES WILL HOLD TOWN HALL MEETINGS NEXT WEEK. ONE IS TUESDAY AT 5:30PM AND THE OTHER IS SET FOR WEDNESDAY AT 7:30AM. BOTH ARE AT THE HOSPITAL’S EDUCATION CENTER. TRIPLE A FUEL GAUGE SAYS WESTERN PA GAS PRICES ROSE A LITTLE OVER 3 CENTS TO $3.41 THIS WEEK. TODAY’S NATIONAL AVERAGE IS $3.26. THAT’S 7 CENTS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ONE MONTH AGO, BUT FRACTIONS OF A PENNY LESS THAN ONE WEEK AGO AND 8 CENTS LESS THAN THE SAME DATE LAST YEAR.
