SANDUSKY SCANDAL

A DAY AFTER THE ATTORNEY FOR FORMER PENN STATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TIM CURLEY ASKED THAT PERJURY CHARGES BE DROPPED AGAINST HIM, FORMER ADMINISTRATOR GARY SCHULTZ WANTS PERJURY AND FAILURE TO REPORT CHARGES AGAINST HIM TO BE DISMISSED. SCHULTZ’S ATTORNEY SAYS SCHULTZ’S STATEMENTS TO THE GRAND JURY INVESTIGATING JERRY SANDUSKY CAN’T BE CORROBORATED BY WHAT FORMER ASSISTANT COACH MIKE MCQUEARY SAID AT A PRELIMINARY HEARING IN DECEMBER…AND SCHULTZ’S TESTIMONY WAS AMBIGUOUS AND HAD OPINIONS THAT CAN’T BE DEEMED TO BE FALSE.CURLEY SAYS PROSECUTORS CAN'T CORROBORATE THE STORY AGAINST HIM IN PART BECAUSE OF THE DEATH OF JOE PATERNO.

PENN STATE HAS A NEW WEBSITE, openness.psu.edu, WHICH INCLUDES FINANCIAL INFORMATION INCLUDING THE SALARIES OF TOP ADMINISTRATORS AND THE PRICE THE UNIVERSITY IS PAYING FOR THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE, BUT THE HARRISBURG PATRIOT NEWS REPORTS THAT “PENN STATERS FOR RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP” IS NOT PLEASED. THE GRASSROOTS GROUP, WHICH HAS NOMINATED 3 CANDIDATES TO RUN FOR THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, CALLS THE WEBSITE “NOTHING MORE THAN A SLICK, SUFERFICIAL PACKAGING OF CAREFULLY-CONTROLLED WORDS AND DOCUMENTS.” THE GROUP ALSO SAYS THE SITE PROVES THAT UNIVERSITY LEADERS HAVE LEARNED NOTHING FROM THE BACKLASH TO THE SECRECY THAT HAS HISTORICALLY-SURROUNDED PENN STATE.
