SANDUSKY TRIAL

FORMER PENN STATE ASSISTANT COACH MIKE MCQUEARY TESTIFIED YESTERDAY THAT HE SAW JERRY SANDUSKY WITH A YOUNG BOY IN A CAMPUS SHOWER IN 2001AND HE WAS POSITIVE THERE WAS SEXUAL ACTIVITY GOING ON. THAT VICTIM HAS NEVER BEEN IDENTIFIED BY AUTHORITIES. MCQUEARY TOLD THE JURY HE CALLED HIS FATHER FOR ADVICE…THEN SPOKE ON THE PHONE TO JOE PATERNO. MCQUEARY CLAIMS FORMER ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TIM CURLEY CALLED HIM A WEEK LATER AND THEY DISCUSSED WHAT HAPPENED…THEN HE SPOKE WITH GARY SCHULTZ, WHO WAS HEAD OF THE PENN STATE POLICE DEPARTMENT. SO-CALLED VICTIM 1 ALSO TOOK THE STAND AND SAID SANDUSKY MOLESTED HIM WHEN HE WAS A BOY AND THEY MET THROUGH A SECOND MILE CAMP. HE IS NOW 18. MORE TESTIMONY THIS MORNING.

HIS ATTORNEY SAYS IT’S NOT TRUE, BUT COURT DOCUMENTS ALLEGE THAT FORMER PENN STATE ADMINISTRATOR GARY SCHULTZ KEPT A SECRET FILE CONTAINING DOCUMENTS RELATING TO JERRY SANDUSKY.THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE SAYS THAT FILE WAS RECENTLY UNEARTHED BY THE UNIVERSITY AND HANDED OVER TO INVESTIGATORS. SCHULTZ…AND FORMER ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TIM CURLEY…ARE NOW CHARGED WITH PERJURY AND FAILURE TO REPORT ABUSE. SCHULTZ’ ATTORNEY HAS ASKED TO HAVE THE PERJURY CHARGE DROPPED. NBC REPORTED MONDAY THAT THE EMAILS, SENT IN 2001, REVEAL THAT FORMER UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT GRAHAM SPANIER AND SCHULTZ DECIDED IT WOULD BE “HUMANE” TO SANDUSKY TO NOT INVOLVE THE AUTHORITIES CONCERNING ONE ALLEGED ABUSE INCIDENT.

SUSPENDED TEACHER WILL STAND TRIAL

27 YEAR OLD SHANE PUTOREK OF PATTON HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FROM HIS MUSIC TEACHING JOB WITH THE HARMONY AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT…AND YESTERDAY, HE WAS ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL ON CHARGES THAT HE SEXUALLY ASSAULTED A 15-YEAR-OLD BOY LAST MONTH WHEN THE JUVENILE SPENT THE NIGHT AT HIS APARTMENT. THE MOST SERIOUS CHARGE, ATTEMPTED RAPE, WAS DISMISSED. PUTOREK REMAINS FREE ON BOND.

VICTIMS IDENTIFIED

AUTHORITIES HAVE RELEASED THE NAMES OF 3 PEOPLE KILLED IN ACCIDENTS MONDAY. 71 YEAR OLD DONALD EVANS SENIOR OF CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY, AND HIS 19 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER, CASSANDRA SINGER OF NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, WERE KILLED WHEN THEIR PICKUP WAS HIT HEAD-ON BY ANOTHER TRUCK ALONG FRANKSTOWN ROAD IN RICHLAND TOWNSHIP.
AND 63 YEAR OLD FARMER GLEN MILLER OF FRIEDENS, SOMERSET COUNTY, DIED WHEN A HAY BALE FELL ON HIM.

DEADLY DRUNK DRIVER WILL STAND TRIAL

A DISTRICT JUDGE IN CAMBRIA COUNTY HAS ORDERED 45 YEAR OLD TODD MUMMERT OF SALIX TO STAND TRIAL ON CHARGES OF HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE. LAST JULY, MUMMERT RAN A RED LIGHT AT ROUTE 219 AND ELTON ROAD AND SLAMMED INTO A MOTORCYCLE, KILLING THE BIKER, 47 YEAR OLD BRYON MCDERMOTT OF RICHLAND. POLICE SAY MUMMERT’S BLOOD-ALCOHOL WAS POINT-2 PERCENT. MUMMERT IS FREE ON BOND.

KILLER SENTENCED

19 YEAR OLD DOMINIC BERRY OF JOHNSTOWN WAS SENTENCED TO 15 TO 30 YEARS IN PRISON YESTERDAY WITHOUT THE CHANCE OF EARLY RELEASE OR PAROLE. HE PLEADED GUILTY TO 3RD-DEGREE MURDER AS WELL AS 2 FIREARMS VIOLATIONS AND A DRUG CHARGE IN CONNECTION WITH THE 2010 SHOOTING DEATH OF 19 YEAR OLD DESEAN ALSTON OUTSIDE THE SOLOMON HOMES.

MISSING MAN SAFE & SOUND

70 YEAR OLD DONALD CHAKAN, WHO REPORTEDLY HAS DEMENTIA, WALKED AWAY FROM THE COLONIAL COURTYARD FACILITY IN TYRONE MONDAY AND SPENT THE NIGHT IN THE WOODS. HE RETURNED TUESDAY MORNING, DIRTY AND WET, BUT UNHARMED.

23 YEAR OLD NICHOLE DURST OF MEYERSDALE IS SCHEDULED TO TURN HERSELF INTO AUTHORITIES TODAY IN CONNECTION WITH 5 BANK ROBBERIES. SOMERSET POLICE SAY 39 YEAR OLD CORBIN WILL OF GARRET DROVE THE GETAWAY CAR WHEN DURST TRIED TO ROB M&T BANK IN TYRONE LAST MONTH. THEY SUCCESSFULLY HELD UP FIRST SUMMIT BANK IN SALIX, CAMBRIA COUNTY AS WELL AS BANKS IN FRIENDSVILLE, MARYLAND…BRUCETON MILLS, WEST VIRGINIA…AND ANOTHER BANK IN SOUTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. WILL WAS PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED IN 10 BANK ROBBERIES FROM LATE 2001 TO 2002.

BEDFORD COUNTY PRISON WARDEN DONALD ORR RESIGNED TUESDAY AFTER AN INVESTIGATION THAT HAS LASTED NEARLY A MONTH. ORR HAD BEEN ON PAID SUSPENSION SINCE MAY 17TH, BUT OFFICIALS HAVE ONLY SAID IT WAS A PERSONNEL ISSUE AND NOT A CRIMINAL MATTER. NO OTHER JAIL EMPLOYEES WERE INVOLVED AND THE DETAILS MAY NEVER BE RELEASED.
