Heck of a night at Central Mountain. Altoona had beaten this team badly in December, but there was a point when the Wildcats made a run at the Lady Lions. And, two Altoona starters were left home. Kayla Grimme was sick and McKenzie Hatch had wisdom teeth removed. But as the game started, it was clear that Altoona wanted to make short work of CM. They hit the mercy rule, 40 point edge, early in the 3rd quarter. The damage had been done in the first quarter.
Lauren Donley was 6-6 in 3 pointers in the first. She scored 2 more of them later in the game to finish with 24 points. Darby Lee was steady throughout and finished with 26.
Jenn Rizzotti was in Mill Hall to view Lee. Rizzotti played at UConn, with Pam Webber, and was on their first national championship team. Currently, she coaches at Hartford College. We spoke with her after and she said she was impressed.
No offense to Central Mountain, but there was a severe talent difference. Still firing up the threes and dominating the paint like we witnessed last night was impressive regardless.
Tonight's game between Altoona and Hollidaysburg has been weathered out. It's been rescheduled for February 19th.
